Mantra of VAJRA GURU PADMASAMBHAVA
One of the most famous mantras in Tibet is the mantra of Padmasambhava, called the Vajra Guru Mantra, OM AH HUM VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUM. Like most mantras, it is in Sanskrit, the ancient sacred language of India. The mantra of Padmasambhava is the mantra of all the Buddhas, masters, and realized beings, and so uniquely powerful for peace, for healing, for transformation and for protection in this violent, chaotic age.
The Vajra Guru mantra, OM AH HUM VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUM, is pronounced by Tibetans: Om Ah Hung Benza Guru Pema Siddhi Hung. This exploration of its meaning is based on explanations by Dudjom Rinpoche and Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.
The essential meaning of the mantra is: "I invoke you, the Vajra Guru, Padmasambhava, by your blessing may you grant us ordinary and supreme siddhis."
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche explains:
It is said that the twelve syllables OM AH HUM VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUM carry the entire blessing of the twelve types of teaching taught by Buddha, which are the essence of his eighty-four thousand Dharmas. Therefore to recite the Vajra Guru mantra once is equivalent to the blessing of reciting . . . or practicing the whole teaching of the Buddha. These twelve branches of the teachings are the antidotes to free us from the "Twelve Links of Interdependent Origination," which keep us bound to samsara: ignorance, karmic formations, discursive consciousness, name and form, senses, contact, sensation, craving, grasping, existence, birth, old age, and death. These twelve links are the mechanism of samsara, by which samsara is kept alive. Through reciting the twelve syllables of the Vajra Guru mantra, these twelve links are purified, and you are able to remove and purify completely the layer of karmic emotional defilements, and so be liberated from samsara.
Although we are not able to see Padmasambhava in person, his wisdom mind has manifested in the form of mantra; these twelve syllables are actually the emanation of his wisdom mind, and they are endowed with his entire blessing. The Vajra Guru Mantra is Padmasambhava in the form of sound. So when you invoke him with the recitation of the twelve syllables, the blessing and merit you obtain is tremendous. In these difficult times, just as there is no Buddha or refuge we can call upon who is more powerful than Padmasambhava, so there is no mantra that is more fitting than the Vajra Guru mantra.
The syllables OM AH HUM have outer, inner, and "secret" meanings. At each of these levels, however, OM stands for the body, AH for the speech, and HUM for the mind. They represent the transformative blessings of the body, speech, and mind of all the Buddhas.
Externally OM purifies all the negative actions committed through your body, AH through your speech, and HUM through your mind. By purifying your body, speech, and mind, OM AH HUM grants the blessing of the body, speech, and mind of the Buddhas.
OM is also the essence of form, AH the essence of sound, and HUM the essence of mind. So by reciting this mantra, you are also purifying the environment, as well as yourself and all other beings within it. OM purifies all perceptions, AH all sounds, and HUM the mind, its thoughts and emotions.
Internally OM purifies the subtle channels, AH the wind, inner air or flow of energy, and HUM the creative essence.
On a deeper level, OM AH HUM represents the three kayas of the Lotus family of Buddhas: OM is the Dharmakaya: the Buddha Amitabha, Buddha of Limitless Light; AH is the Sambhogakaya: Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion; and HUM is the Nirmanakaya: Padmasambhava. This signifies, in the case of this mantra, that all three kayas are embodied in the person of Padmasambhava.
At the innermost level, OM AH HUM brings the realization of the three aspects of the nature of mind: OM brings the realization of its unceasing Energy and Compassion AH brings the realization of its radiant Nature, and HUM brings the realization of its sky-like Essence.
VAJRA is compared to the diamond, the strongest and most precious of stones. Just as a diamond can cut through anything but is itself completely indestructible, so the unchanging, non-dual wisdom of the Buddhas can never be harmed or destroyed by ignorance, and can cut through all delusion and obscurations. The qualities and activities of the body, speech, and wisdom mind of the are able to benefit beings with the piercing, unhindered power of the diamond. And like a diamond, the Vajra is free of defects; its brilliant strength comes from the realization of the Dharmakaya nature of reality, the nature of the Buddha Amitabha.
GURU means "weighty"; someone replete with every wonderful quality, who embodies wisdom, knowledge, compassion, and skillful means. Just as gold is the weightiest and most precious of metals, so the inconceivable, flawless qualities of the Guru—the master—make him unsurpassable, and above all things in excellence. GURU corresponds to the Sambhogakaya, and to Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. Also, since Padmasambhava teaches the path of Tantra, which is symbolized by the Vajra, and through the practice of Tantra he attained supreme realization, so he is known as the "VAJRA GURU."
PADMA means lotus, and signifies the Lotus family of the, and specifically their aspect of enlightened speech. The Lotus family is the Buddha family to which human beings belong. As Padmasambhava is the direct emanation, the Nirmanakaya, of Buddha Amitabha, who is the primordial of the Lotus family, he is known as "PADMA." His name Padmasambhava, the "Lotus-born," in fact refers to the story of his birth on a blossoming lotus flower.
When the syllables VAJRA GURU PADMA are taken together, they also signify the essence and the blessing of the View, Meditation, and Action. VAJRA means the unchanging, diamantine, indestructible Essence of the truth, which we pray to realize in our View. GURU represents the luminosity Nature and noble qualities of enlightenment, which we pray to perfect in our Meditation. PADMA stands for Compassion, which we pray to accomplish in our Action.
Through reciting the mantra, then, we receive the blessing of the wisdom mind, the noble qualities and the compassion of Padmasambhava and all the .
SIDDHI means "real accomplishment," "attainment," "blessing," and "realization." There are two kinds of siddhis: ordinary and supreme. Through receiving the blessing of ordinary siddhis, all obstacles in our lives, such as ill-health, are removed, all our good aspirations are fulfilled, benefits like wealth and prosperity and long life accrue to us, and all of life's various circumstances become auspicious and conducive to spiritual practice, and the realization of enlightenment.
The blessing of the supreme siddhi brings about enlightenment itself, the state of complete realization of Padmasambhava, that benefits both ourselves and all other sentient beings. So by remembering and praying to the body, speech, mind, qualities, and activity of Padmasambhava, we will come to attain both ordinary and supreme siddhis.
SIDDHI HUM is said to draw in all the siddhis like a magnet that attracts iron filings.
HUM represents the wisdom mind of the , and is the sacred catalyst of the mantra. It is like proclaiming its power and truth: "So be it!"
Mantra of the Medicine Buddha
Sanskrit Pronunciation
Tad-ya-ta: Om Bhai-sha-jye Bhai-sha-jye Maha Bhai-sha-jye Ra-ja Sa-mud-ga-te Sva-ha
Tibetan Pronunciation
Tad-ya-ta: Om Be-kan-dze Be-kan-dze Ma-ha Be-kan-dze
Ra-dza Sa-mung-ga-te So-ha!
The mantra means:
May the many sentient beings who are sick, quickly be freed from sickness, And may all the sicknesses of beings Never arise again.
Ancient teachings tell us that merely seeing the Medicine Buddha, or even seeing an image of the Medicine Buddha, or hearing the name of the Medicine Buddha, can confer inconceivable benefits.
In Tibetan images of the Medicine Buddha the left hand typically holds a blooming myrobalan plant. Tibetan medicine recognizes three basic types of illness, the root causes of which are the conflicting emotions -- passion, aggression, and ignorance. Myrobalan is the only herb in the Tibetan pharmacopoeia that can aid in healing each of these three types of diseases. This is like the action of the Buddha of Healing, who has the power to see the true cause of any affliction, whether spiritual, physical or psychological, and who does whatever is necessary to alleviate it.
In his Teachings on the Medicine Buddha the Ven. Thrangu Rinpoche discusses the position of the Medicine Buddha's two hands:
"His right hand is extended, palm outward, over his right knee in the gesture called supreme generosity. In it he holds the arura, or myrobalan, fruit. This plant represents all the best medicines. The position of his right hand and the arura which he holds represent the eradication of suffering, especially the suffering of sickness, using the means of relative truth. Sickness can be alleviated by adjusting the functioning of interdependent causes and conditions by the use of relative means within the realm of relative truth, such as medical treatment and so on. The giving of these methods is represented by the gesture of the Medicine Buddha's right hand.
"His left hand rests in his lap, palm upward, in the gesture of meditative stability or meditation, which represents the eradication of sickness and suffering— and, indeed, the very roots of samsara— through the realization of absolute truth. From the point of view of either relative truth or absolute truth, the fundamental cause of sickness and suffering is a lack of contentment and the addictive quality of samsara. Therefore, to indicate the need for contentment, in his left hand he holds a begging bowl." Tibetan Buddhists consider the Medicine Buddha Empowerment to be the most powerful blessing for healing, dispelling sickness and for awakening the innate healing wisdom that lies within every individual.
The practice of the Medicine Buddha meditation (sadhana), and all the other ways of connecting to the blessings of the Medicine Buddha (such as those discussed on this page) are said to be much more effective when one has received the Medicine Buddha Empowerment (Tibetan: lung; Sanskrit: abisheka) from a qualified lama (Tibetan Buddhist meditation master).
Medicine Buddha is one aspect of awakened mind, which the practitioner's (and the vajra master's) vast real unconditioned (non conceptual) mind. In this empowerment the lama reminds us, in a sense, of our deep innate connection with the Medicine Buddha.
The Art of Healing: A Tibetan Buddhist Perspective
"Thus, the distant causes of the diseases are seated in the past mental environment which was influenced by "afflictive emotions" -- mental factors that are the root cause of all illness. While these factors are impossible to enumerate, they are all the consequences of ignorance (Dhonden, p.15). Ignorance generates other negative states of mind such as desire, hatred, jealousy and pride. Such negative emotions drive our mentations, and our mentations contribute to our suffering."
"Understanding one's emotions is an essential part of the Buddhist journey to full awakening and freedom form unwanted conditions of all sorts. However, since most of us have very little ability to work with our emotional energies without creating negative experiences, medicines and other remedies are required."
"The Tibetan physician focuses his attention on spiritual factors even in the treatment of the simplest illnesses. Every Tibetan physician vows to 'regard medicine as an offering to the Medicine Buddha and all other medicine deities' and considers his 'medical instruments as holy objects' (Dummer, p. xix). Even the pharmaceuticals, which are mixtures of vegetable, animal and mineral compounds, are prepared with meticulous attention to religious ritual."
"One can also petition the healing powers of the Medicine Buddha by visualization practices .... Even the name of the Medicine Buddha is believed to have the power to free one from the pattern of negative thoughts and emotions. Healing can occur just by speaking, hearing or concentrating on his name. Thus, for example, conceited persons will become humble, greedy persons will become charitable and those who cause dissent will become cooperative and loving just by hearing or saying his name."
"Some examples of ritual involving the Medicine Buddha which are believed to have a curative or strengthening influence for the ill include meditating upon the deep blue color of lapis lazuli; making puja offerings of flowers and incense to the image of the deity; mentally or physically constructing an image of the deity; playing musical instruments and chanting; reading sutras; constructing altars, mandalas or banners; and lighting lamps."
"The significance of the Medicine Buddha as the Supreme Healer in Tibetan medicine for liberating the individual from suffering is an exemplary metaphor for the mystical elements which are universally inherent in the healing tradition. The tradition is truly a holistic approach to the problem of suffering, both individual suffering and suffering as a universal condition."

Preparation
Right after office hour, i went to the town in Thimphu, Capital city of Bhutan to do shopping as part of peparation for our (my family's) annual ritual ceremony which is scheduled on 3rd day of the month of January 2011. Every Bhutanese citizen from every corner of the Country have a tradition of hosting ritual ceremony (LOACHOE) annually. On 23.12.2010 i intend to do all sort of shopping in 3 hours but was not possible, NO WONDER!! those days my parents and grand parents use to take one whole year just to prepare for that three (3) days annual ritual ceremony.so i think that was a bullshit thing from my end intending to do all preparation in just within a day.
All said and done, i'm little reliefed from the tension of preparation for Ritual Ceremony, having distributed every single task to be carried out by my elder and younger brothers and sisters, thus managing revenue/ money underneath my beautiful and smart foot.

Real Illusion
After i met her, atleast once every morning i desires to hang around, and met my girl friend, when both of us were single. thus one fine day. innovative suggestion struck on my mind. a bouquet of red rose to be holded with hands, dodge down with a knee on ground. pleasing her to be mine.
No sooner we got married, and thus had a beautiful daughter.....that firmed our tie of relationship. in which both can't leave without eachother.......but unfortunately me obliged by circumstances to leave her behind for the further studies.there the couple (me and my better half) after few weeks had been habituated to chat over and over through internet.....thus when i reach my final year for B.sc in Information Technology.....i over heard through friend of mine...saying "hey Pema, u know, your wife had got engaged for second marriage"
that was really inconceivable news to me i had ever heard about....so answered.
"tey Dorji, how can can my shub (wife)...marry with somebody leaving me behind...and u know we have even got a daughter to look after"
"yes u r right, me too shocked mai....but she really did it" he said
with heard of that news....i run to the computer ,,,,where daily i make a chat with her.........
no reply reflected back to me......that was unusual thing happened ...which is marvelous & inconceivable......so by then i got to do final exam paper....in which not i was not yet prepared....but that was helpless no interim to kill that paper out...but i have to do by any means ....so when result was declared my name seen to be nowhere....but at the end...highlighted with red on the mark scored....(which ,means i didn't qulify) and that became unbearable agony (dhu ngyel gi dhu ngyel) one of a real suffering of the perenial samsara. with no agonize i got to go to visit and see her at her present husband's home...there she is but i was amazed by when she closed the door as soon as i reach door step....so there my blood presure increased which hit my heart every now and then.....so okey decission of mine, disolved not to met her throughout my life...so then i stop meeting her for atleast one year.......but still what happened was i could not wash my brain drain for her appearance...there her images flashes through and my daughter too,,,,in which intact me to think all time about my better half, and my cute beautiful daughter too..so there me left surounded with full of agony....for one years....
Eventually one fine day.....she too was left with no husband (the man kicked her out of his room)...so there she is..a smart lady..to approach me and appealed for one more chance to tie our relationship together...but for me no chance & have no space to her.....
"no more chance lady...once gone means gone....please take ur footprint back" i said
she disobey mendate of mine....then here is the real & gentle husband...
"come on go out.....grap the arm (my better half), and pulled towards the door, now u may leave, thats ur way, not this way" i said
there she is to please me....weeping and screaming at me...please dont do that....
But what to do.... can do nothing...just leave".showed by annoyed mode.
There, after a moment she left print of nothing (memory of her)
went out with silent weeping...
"bye bye" i said...then after i chucked out of my heart....i feel lovelone ...in which i plead guilty to myself,,and felt sorry to her...but still that made me feel sad.....throughout my live...but??????
A moment later, I heard my cellular's alarm.trying to wake me up....i woke out of my heavenly abbot ( the bed) i shoved my head thinking what will happen next...done simultaneously....nothing is in my mind about percieving the agony. what i could remember is that last night i got broke with my girlfriend...so gave thought once again...but its that way only....so eventually. was Fortunate.....that was the prolonged story of mine for last night dream , so the supplication of mine is that dont ever be lead this incident to fall on every human being in this WORLD.
